MEDFORD, Ore. -- UPDATE: Police have recovered the vehicle. The suspect is still on the loose.
Police say they are looking for a man described as possibly Hispanic with a large “hook” nose. They say he shorter in stature and thin.
4:30 p.m. :
Just before 4PM on Thursday, November 9th, Medford Police said there was a bank robbery at the Chase Bank on Crater Lake Avenue and Stevens Street in Medford.
Shortly after, Medford Police says officers received calls of assault with a knife and possible car jacking at Grace Christian School next door to the bank. After talking with Principle Tim Teterud we learned that the majority of children had already left school for the day but there were approximately 14 children still in the building for an afterschool program.
The school was put on lockdown and all the children and staff were taken inside. Around 5:00 PM the lockdown was lifted. No children were harmed during the attack.
Medford Police said one victim involved in the car jacking was transported to the hospital for injuries from knife. Principle Teterud told NewsWatch 12 that he has since been released and is home recovering. Police say neither a suspect nor a person of interest has been found.
Police say they're looking for a gold 2001 Chevy Suburban with chrome rims.
The suspect is described as White or Hispanic, approximately 5'2", between 25-40 years old.
Right now detectives are inside Chase Bank trying to get information, collect evidence and surveillance video.
Police are also investigating a crime scene where the armed car theft occurred in the parking lot of Grace Christian School.
Police say suspect tried to get keys to a pick-up truck, failed, then made off in suburban.
Officers are out trying to locate that vehicle right now.
