CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. -- Domingo Ramirez was just 21 years old when he and his dog Kandi took a trip to Kelly Lake on June 5, 2004.
Domingo never came home.
After a week of searching, neighbors found Domingo's dog Kandi in a remote location near Page Mountain Sno-Park - 15 miles from Kelly Lake. She was badly injured and had survived a gunshot to the head and leg.
"She just looked at me," said Domingo's mother, Yvonne Company. "She had so much to tell me."
Kandi survived but unfortunately what she saw that day in June would never be spoken. After finding Kandi, search parties began to scour the Sno-Park area. Domingo's belongings including a cooler and Kandi's dog bed were found in the woods. The items appeared to be hidden.
Six weeks later, authorities found Domingo's 1997 Bravada SUV. The driver said he had purchased the car from two men. The Josephine County Sheriff's Department identified the tow men as Joel Brian Orozco Rico and Jose Luis Villegas-Cavada. The two were brought in for questioning but never arrested.
For now Domingo's case remains unsolved and his body was never found. Domingo's mother says the family struggles everyday not knowing where Domingo is or what really happened that day in 2004.
Although Domingo has been missing for almost 13 years, his mother says she feels fortunate that his memory will continue to live with his son, Damien. Domingo's girlfriend was just three months pregnant when he disappeared.
"I am truly blessed with that," Company said. "That I can look at him and see my son in him."
