Near the location of Carney's body was the Pilot truck stop in Central Point, an area Carney had spent some time hanging around.

Carney had actually lived in the Rogue Valley at one point - years before his death - but had spent about a decade traveling the U.S. with truckers. Case notes also point out that during his return to the area, Carney essentially made the Pilot stop his home base; he would eat, make calls, and find jobs around that area.

But despite the mystery of what happened, and the question surrounding the investigation, investigators mentioned that, based on their findings, there were no significant signs Carney had any enemies that would want to harm him.

Connections also popped up between this murder case and David Lewis’ murder, but all investigators would say is they still believe there’s a link in evidence between the two.

Additionally, there was a fire set in the middle of the campsites about ten days after Carney’s body was found, with investigators saying they suspected it was intentionally set to try and cover up evidence.

But still - no suspects in this case have been identified.
