CRESCENT, Ore. — A proposed compost operation in a northern Klamath County town is on hold, following protest from Crescent residents.
The facility would process 36,000 tons of compost every year, mostly table waste from Portland. The State Department of Environmental Quality says it needs more information on the environmental impacts of the project.
The agency made the decision following town hall meetings in Crescent. Residents of the unincorporated town of a few hundred people said they feared odor and groundwater pollution.

We also fear the increased predation due to an increase in rats and the decay of all of the animals that fall into this permit.
