Community Watch To Be Armed

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Northern Josephine County residents are arming themselves, hoping to fill gaps left by cuts to law enforcement.

A deputy, who was laid off after county residents did not pass a public safety levy last May, is training seven Hugo residents on how to respond to burglaries and other crimes.

In a statement, the “North Valley Community Watch” said some of its members will be armed. A similar group formed last year in O’Brien to conduct armed neighborhood patrols on the southern end of the county.
