Commissioner Recall Effort Initiated

Walker_CherrylGRANTS PASS, Ore. — A request to start an official petition to recall commissioner Cherryl Walker was filed Friday morning in Josephine County. Recall organizers said if approved, they’ll need about 6,000 signatures in order to get the recall on this November’s ballot.

Organizers with the Cherryl Walker Recall Committee are behind the effort. The group has filed with both the state and county and once the Josephine county clerk approves the request, supporters will have 90 days to collect the needed signatures. Recall supporters said she is not the leader the county needs.

“You have to have the leadership to start everything and at the top of the scale, we’ve got another two and a half years and we can’t afford this,” said Cherryl Walker Recall Committee chief petitioner Bill Hunker.

The Josephine county commissioners’ office was closed today and commissioner Walker could not be reached for comment.
