GRANTS PASS, Ore. – A Civil War veteran has received a grave marker more than 100 years after he died.
At a ceremony held over the weekend, Ezekiel Colby’s grave was marked by a 200 pound headstone, in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery at Merlin. A similar ceremony (pictured) was held earlier this month in Jacksonville.
Colby fought in the Union Army from Indiana and moved to Oregon in 1890. The marble headstone was secured with help from the Department of Veterans Affairs, part of a nationwide effort to make sure all veterans graves are marked.
