Council Application Deadline Extended

citycouncilMEDFORD, Ore. — It will be another two weeks until the city can finalize the candidates for the vacant city council seat.

Friday was the original deadline to return applications for the Ward 1 seat left empty by Al Densmore’s retirement, but the council only received two applications back.

They are now extending the deadline to September 6th to try to get three qualified candidates. City Council Member Dick Gordon says he’s not surprised at the low interest this late in the summer.

“It’s August. It’s a slow time. A lot of folks are on vacation, and we’re a little slow in getting the message out that the vacancy actually existed,” said City Council Member Dick Gordon.

The council has selected a citizens committee to interview the candidates in mid-September. Gordon says he hopes the council can select a new member by October.
