MEDFORD, Ore. – Another company is setting up shop in southern Oregon, celebrating with a grand opening Wednesday.
Dozens lined up to order burritos and other items from Chipotle Mexican Grill on Wednesday morning. The restaurant just the latest to open its doors at the Northgate Marketplace.
Chipotle said it hired 30 local people. This comes after several other companies opened in the shopping center and also hired dozens of locals. Economists say this is a good sign of an economic recovery.
“I think it’s a sign that the worst of the recession is behind us and those companies that have had Southern Oregon on their radar for a long time; they’re finally pulling the trigger and opening up those stores,” said Guy Tauer, the Regional Economist at WorkSource Oregon.
According to WorkSource Oregon, retail jobs account for one in six jobs in Jackson County. The sector has grown by 600 jobs over the past years.
