Child Seriously Injured in Crash

Jon FirehammerGOLD HILL, Ore. — Jackson County Sheriff’s officials say on Saturday at 7:10 p.m., deputies responded to a two vehicle crash in the 100 block of North River Road in Gold Hill.

Investigators say Jon Allen Firehammer, 40, of Josephine County lost control of his blue Dodge Dakota pickup and drove into the oncoming lane and hit a Silver Ford Mustang driven by Kaylene Streight.

Streight’s minor child was transported to Rogue Regional Medical Center with serious injuries and was later flown to Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, according to a press release.

Officials say evidence reveals Firehammer was operating his vehicle recklessly at the time of the crash. Alcohol is believed to be factor.

Firehammer was lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of Assault 3, DUII-Alcohol, Reckless Endangering, Interfering with Making a Report, and Tampering with a Witness.

The case remains under investigation.
