MEDFORD, Ore. — A 13-year-old piano prodigy is making stop on her North American tour in Medford on Monday evening.
The 13-year-old musician has played piano for 9 years. She started at the age of 4 because her friends were playing piano. Umi Garrett says it takes her about a month to learn a new piece.
“Some of these pieces are new for me. I started it maybe this summer. Some of these pieces I’ve been doing for a long time and I brought it back for the concerts,” said Garrett.
Umi will be playing Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven, two etudes by Chopin, Ballade Number Two by Chopin, a measure sonata by Mozart, the nocturne e measure by Chopin.
This is the 12th concert in her North American tour, and her 4th time to Oregon. She is playing Monday night at the Craterian at 7:30 p.m.
