WHITE CITY, Ore. – Fire officials are investigating the cause of a 3.5-acre grassfire in White City.
The fire began at just before noon Saturday. Fire District 3 and the Department of Forestry responded within five minutes of receiving the call.
They say the quick response was fortunate given the speed at which the fire was spreading.
“It was moving at a pretty rapid pace for the time of day that it was and there was no wind or anything,” said Fire Captain Aaron Backus.
No property was damaged in the fire.
Officials say hot and dry conditions this week have them on high alert for more fires.
They say to be careful when using mowers or heavy machinery, even though no ban has been placed on heavy machinery yet this season.
