The upper-low that’s been off the Oregon coast will push inland during the day increasing shower activity as it does so with the bulk of the rain arriving this evening through tomorrow morning. The coast, Umpqua and Cascades will see the most rain with lesser amounts in the valleys and east of the Cascades. The potential for thunderstorms will be present this afternoon and evening across the region with favored spots in the northern Cascades and north Klamath and Lake counties. Thunderstorms will be isolated, not expecting a widespread thunderstorm outbreak.

Showers will ease up during the day tomorrow with fog and drizzle possible Thursday at the coast while inland areas start to dry out and return sunshine to the region. High pressure builds in just in time for Summer on Friday bringing more seasonable temperatures and more sunshine. We’ll stay warm through the weekend but could see some showers over the weekend with a cold front arriving Monday bringing widespread rain to the area and cooler temperatures a bit.

Enjoy our last warm day of the week before an upper low settles over the Pacific Northwest bringing unseasonably cool temperatures again this week, comparable to last week. Wednesday will be the coolest day of the week and that will carry over to Thursday morning and we could be waking up to areas of frost at the higher elevations and on the east side. This afternoon we once again will have a chance for thunderstorms in the northern Cascades, the favored area for thunderstorm growth is mainly north of our region today. Tomorrow when the upper low moves inland we’ll have our best chance so far for thunderstorms to form for all inland areas, with the favored spots along and east of the Cascades in southern Oregon.

We could see a few light showers this afternoon at the coast and the higher elevations with shower activity increasing tomorrow. The bulk of the rain will fall late Tuesday into early Wednesday but we’ll see spotty showers through Wednesday. Most of the rain will fall along and west of the Cascades, but it will be mainly light showers with the potential for moderate rain at the coast.

Summer officially begins on Friday and temperatures will rebound just in time back to what we expect for early Summer. Thanks for logging on and have a great Monday!

The late afternoon and early evening may bring a pop up shower or thunderstorm in the higher terrain, specifically the Cascades. Any shower or thundershower development could then move into the Klamath Basin. However, the chances for this will be similar to Sunday afternoon so I am not expecting much, if any at all.

By Monday evening a longwave trough will begin nudging inland. This is going to drop temperatures considerably, to below seasonal norms. Tuesday & Wednesday will bring spotty showers to the viewing area. Most of the rainfall will be light in nature, but most areas should be seeing at least a drop of rain. By Thursday, the system will move north and clear the area.

Conditions begin improving from here on out, into the weekend with sunny skies and more seasonable temperatures.

Have a great week!

High pressure is the dominant weather feature influencing our weather currently. Mostly sunny conditions will persist for Father’s Day however bands of clouds are moving through the Pacific Northwest from a strong and deep area of low pressure sitting in the middle of the Pacific. The high will begin moving south and east as the longwave trough continues to brew off to our West. Expect nice & fairly dry weather through Monday as a result. With weak instability present, it is possible an afternoon shower of thundershower does develop Sunday along the Cascades, but expect any development to dissipate as the sun sets. If storms are to develop, they will be very isolated, and could also roll into the Klamath Basin.

The aforementioned deep low will move inland beginning Monday evening. This is going to bring much cooler temperatures back into the viewing area, similar to what we saw this past week. Temperatures are going to drop 5-10 degrees below average once again. The disturbance will bring a chance for showers across the area also, but all rainfall will be light with the best chances remaining along the Coast & in the higher terrain. By Thursday, the system starts to lift and we’ll begin to see conditions improving. Gradual clearing will then continue into the weekend.

High pressure persists in the Pacific Northwest through Saturday and warmer weather will continue through Monday with temperatures gradually cooling Sunday and Monday and much cooler next week as a an upper-low settles over the region. The warm temperatures this weekend will provide the instability for afternoon thunderstorms, mainly in the Cascades, but a thunderstorm or two could carry over into the basin. The best chance for thunderstorms will be Sunday afternoon when the upper low moves in and provides more moisture to the region; some thunderstorms on Sunday could make it into the valley but at this time it’s still a slight chance. If headed out this weekend be prepared for conditions to change quickly as the weekend, for the most part, will be warm sunny and dry…until those thunderstorms form.

Next week the upper-low will start to bring much cooler weather, similar to what we saw this week, and spotty showers mainly Tuesday and Wednesday and most will stay in southern Oregon with only a few going as far south as Siskiyou county.

Weak high pressure is now moving in from the West. Say goodbye to those cooler temperatures! More spring or “almost summer” like temperatures are now in place. Clear skies are going to help warm up the afternoons through the weekend. The upper 70′s and low 80′s are expected for all inland areas. Along the Coast highs will approach 70 Friday, before dropping to the lower 60′s through this Father’s Day Weekend. Isolated thunderstorms may develop in the mountains Saturday, but mainly Sunday, afternoon. The weather will cooperate elsewhere and other areas will remain dry.

A longwave trough will begin inching it’s way towards the Coastline come next week. Unseasonably cool temperatures are then going to move back into the region. This will bring a chance for isolated showers across the viewing area but most of them don’t seem to be amounting to all that much as of right now. It’s possible a heavier shower could pass through the higher terrain. Most of the shower activity looks to be confined to Tuesday & Wednesday.

For now, we are dry with abundant sun through the weekend. Expect high clouds to begin rolling in for the start of next week.

Have a great Father’s Day!

After the sun sets tonight shower activity on the east side will dry out and we’ll see gradual clearing of the skies this evening for inland areas which will allow temperatures to drop quickly. Tonight will be a chilly to cold night across the region so tomorrow will be a good day to dress in layers because tomorrow afternoon will be much warmer than what we’ve seen all week! The warmer weather will continue through the weekend as high pressure builds into the region. Tonight the marine layer will return at the coast and some clouds to persist for inland areas in the morning with abundant sunshine returning to the region for most of the day tomorrow.

Saturday an upper low will begin to push into the region bringing a slight chance for thunderstorms to the Cascades in the afternoon and a better chance for thunderstorms across the viewing area late Father’s Day and only a slight chance for thunderstorms late Monday along and east of the Cascades. The warmer weather we’ll see this weekend is short-lived as the upper-low will return the unseasonably cool temperatures we’ve see this week back to the Pacific Northwest and spotty showers early next week.

For thunderstorms on Father’s Day be prepared for conditions to change rapidly as the day will start warm with mostly sunny skies. Stay tuned to Newswatch12 for the latest.

We still have a cool air mass in place, as a longwave trough sits over the Pacific Northwest. This system will shift eastward this evening, and a weak high pressure air mass will move in tomorrow. With low pressure to the north, winds are out of the north and northwest & this is bringing some clouds and moisture in off the ocean. Some light sprinkles are expected again today along the Coast, especially the further north you head. Even in the Valley & the higher terrain a light shower could fall. None of these will amount to anything though. Crater Lake may have some snow flurries coming down as snow levels have dropped to about 6,000.’

Sunny conditions will yield warmer temperatures Friday and into this Father’s Day weekend. Some weak instability will be present the second half of the weekend so isolated thunderstorms are a possibility. Come next week, a stronger closed low is going to bring a lot of moisture inland. Spotty showers are in the forecast for most of the viewing area Monday through Wednesday. Still, showers will be here & there and many locations will remain dry.
