PORTLAND, Ore. – It’s déjà vu all over again for the South Medford girls’ basketball team. South lost in the 6A state championship game for the second consecutive season. PORTLAND, Ore. – For the third straight season, South Medford is going to the state championship. The Panthers withstood a second half rally from Beaverton to win 45-40, securing a spot in the finals against Oregon City.
Four Southern Oregon boys basketball teams were in action on Thursday in Oregon’s state quarterfinals. All four teams lost. Highlights include South Medford/Jesuit, Eagle Point/West Albany, North Valley/Philomath and Henley/La Grande.
South Medford beats South Salem 46-35 to advance to the 6A Semifinals. In the 4A, defending state champs Mazama beat Philomath, but the other two Southern Oregon teams in the field, Henley and Brookings-Harbor, lose in the first round
Cesar Chavez hit the game winning shot with 1.5 seconds left as Eagle Point beat Crescent Valley 55-53 to advance to the 5A State Tournament. South Medford, North Valley and Henley were the other boys teams to advance on Saturday night.
Local high schools looked to earn a trip to the state tournament on Friday night. South Medford beat conference foe Roseburg to advance to the 6A Tournament, while Henley and Mazama moved on to the 4A Tournament in Corvallis
