The trial of the former Yreka resident has captured tabloid type headlines because of details of lurid sex and a scandalous relationship that ended in a blood bath.

Family members of the victim hugged each other as the verdict was read. The trial, which dragged on for four months, now enters the punishment phase.

THE DALLES, Ore. — After an Amber Alert was issued early this morning in The Dalles, the child in question was found safe and the suspect is now in police custody.

Police had reported that Skylar Meldin Coulcer-Jarding, age 5, was taken from his home around 5:40 AM. The suspect was last seen driving a stolen bluish-green 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier displaying Oregon license 229 BUK.

At 8:30 AM, the Amber Alert was cancelled and police reported that the suspect, Brian DePriest, age 36, was in custody. We are still waiting on more details as the story develops.

A five-year-old boy from The Dalles was kidnapped this morning, activating an Amber Alert. Oregon State Police says Skylar Coulcer-Jarding was taken from his home around 5:40 this morning. Police believe 36-year-old Brian DePriest went into the child’s home and assaulted someone with a hammer before taking the boy. Police say DePriest knows Skylar’s mother but have not released information about that relationship.

DePriest is believed to be driving a stolen bluish-green 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier displaying Oregon license 229 BUK.  The vehicle has a dolphin sticker on the rear window. Skylar is 3’6”, 45-50 lbs, with sandy-brown hair.  He wears glasses, is cross-eyed, and has a speech impediment. DePreist was last seen wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

There are no details yet about where DePriest may be headed.

EUGENE, Ore. — Chip Kelly arrives at the Eugene Airport and speaks to media about his decision to leave Oregon to become the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Michael Christopher MacCallum was found dead of a gunshot wound at the bottom of steep cliff just over the Oregon/California boarder in Siskiyou County. His body was found November 20th by search and rescue crews.

His wife, Patricia MacCallum originally reported him missing. She told police he didn’t return from a camping trip. The Siskiyou County Sheriff believes Patricia’s behavior after the death was somewhat unusual.

“She played the part of a grieving spouse searching for her lost husband and it was somewhat unusual that she would grant interviews with the news media,” the Sheriff said.

Mrs. MacCallum and another person, Amber Lubbers, were arrested Friday evening and charged with premeditated murder. The Siskiyou County Sheriff says an exhaustive investigation by multiple agencies lead to the charges. MacCallum and Lubbers are in the Jackson County Jail and will soon be extradited to California for the duration of the criminal prosecution.

“There were some inconsistencies and there were some concerns that we had about the statements we received from individuals that were identified and interviewed during the investigation,” he said.

Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey also says the extradition process will likely be completed on Monday.

EAGLE POINT, Ore. — A two story home burned to the ground from an early morning fire and then spread causing a wildfire nearby.

The fire started around midnight near the 1900 block of Crowfoot Road in Eagle Point. By the time crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames.  ODF Forest Officials said it ended up spreading off the property and grew to about a quarter acre in size.

“The wildfire probably spread very shortly after the building got significantly involved,” stated officials. The details on how the house fire spread are still unknown.

No one was injured in the fire  and the cause of it is under investigation.

Two people were inside the home at the time of the fire and were able to make it out safely, however their dog did not make it out in time and lost its life.

Fire officials are still investigating what may have caused the fire.  Officials told us one of the occupants said he emptied an ashtray from the car into the garbage can earlier. Fire officials have yet to confirm that is the cause of the fire, but that is an area they are looking at, officials said.

Early estimates on the amount of damage have not been made, but fire officials said about a third of the house was destroyed.
