Cash Reward for Pacific Power Thieves

Pacific Power

GRANTS PASS, Ore. – Pacific Power is increasing the cash reward for the thieves who cut down seven poles outside Grants Pass to steal copper wire and other available metal. Now, $5,000 is being rewarded to the individual who can give authorities information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the crooks.

In Southern Oregon over the past six months, more than $50,000 worth of wire and other equipment has been stolen from the company. This last incident will cost more than $75,000 for repairs. Damages to the electrical system puts crew members at risk as they attempt to fix the problems.

Pacific Power is asking the public to report any suspicious activity such as individuals loitering near service yards, climbing poles or carrying coiled wire where there are no company vehicles present. With the exception of local power outages, Pacific Power crews usually won’t be working at night. They also will be wearing company gear and will surround work sites with orange safety cones.

Rather than confronting any suspicious loiterers, call 9-1-1.
