YREKA, Calif. — Fire officials are calling this start to the wildfire season in California “unprecedented.” That’s why Cal Fire is already working to bring its full staff on.
Governor Jerry Brown has declared this week “Wildfire Awareness Week.” It’s in response to one of the driest winters in the region. In fact, Cal Fire has already responded to 1,100 fires statewide, which is double the average.
California Fire officials are urging residents to be ready for fires. They’re asking you to maintain 100-feet of defensible space and to create an evacuation plan.
