Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick? Free Movie Screening

A new Regional Health Equity Coalition, SO Health-E, is hosting a free screening of the documentary Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick? to look at the impacts of social and economic inequities in America. We will examine why where you live can affect how long you live? Following the screening attendees will share and discuss health care in Southern Oregon and what needs to change.


The movie is split into 4 sessions (June 26, July 17, July 31, and August 14 – in English) and (June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8 – in Spanish).

Arc of Jackson Cty, LIfespan Respite has 2 Social CLubs for seniors experiencing memory loss, dementia, Alzheimer’s or any disability. We provide a low cost afternoon for caregivers of seniors where they can socialize, snack, play games, exercise, sing and feel a part of our community.

We currently have 2 Clubs, one in Ashland at Mt. View Assisted Living on Wednesdays from 12-4 and one in Medford at Wynwood of the Rogue Valley on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-4. These clubs are $6.50 per hour but financial assistance may be available.

Every Friday night, Tina Ferris and Rush Benke start beginners lesson at 7:00. Dances include: WALTZ, FOXTROT, RUMBA, CHA CHA, SWING AND MORE. Mixer and open dance starts at 8:00 ends at 10:00. All are welcome. Young or old, married or single, novice dancer or avid dancer, there is room or everyone. Fun, safe, alcohol free atmosphere – under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Enjoy a scrumptious four-course dinner during the 8 p.m. seating at Cucina Biazzi in Ashland on the last evening of every month through December 2014, and restaurant management will donate 100% of your dinner proceeds to FOTAS -Friends of the Animal Shelter (Beverage, dessert, and tip excluded from donated proceeds). You can enjoy a magnificent meal and know you are also helping FOTAS programs to care for and adopt animals at the Jackson County Animal Shelter. Reservations for the 8 p.m. seating recommended.

Annie Thomas, Crater Rock Museum’s featured artist for August and September, is “…obsessed with beads and crystals of all kinds.” Her works are beautiful and innovative. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings – all are works of art! She enjoys recycling old vintage jewelry, and said her favorite new designs are those that resemble Victorian era pieces. Her unique designs, creativity, and love of beading shows in her lovely creations! Annie’s jewelry is sold in the gift shop year-round; as the featured artist for August and September, selected pieces of her work will be on display.

First Friday Concerts: Quadrophonic – Space as Metaphor

Beginning Friday, August 1, Todd Barton and Bruce Bayard, performing as the duet Control Voltage Therapy, present a series of concerts every First Friday Schneider Museum of Art. Featuring two Buchla Easel electronic music instruments, and a quadraphonic sound system, Barton and Bayard explore “Space as Metaphor.” The concerts are every First Friday, August through December beginning at 11am. Some months will have special guests to be announced. The performances are free and open to the public.

Take a rip-roaring music-filled adventure with a reluctant but lovable ogre, a talkative donkey, a headstrong princess (with a secret) and an evil lord in the Land of Far Far Way! Teen Musical Theater of Oregon is the youth theater education program of Craterian Performances and draws students from all over the Rogue Valley.
