Crater Rock Museum Featured Artist – August/September

Annie Thomas, Crater Rock Museum’s featured artist for August and September, is “…obsessed with beads and crystals of all kinds.” Her works are beautiful and innovative. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings – all are works of art! She enjoys recycling old vintage jewelry, and said her favorite new designs are those that resemble Victorian era pieces. Her unique designs, creativity, and love of beading shows in her lovely creations! Annie’s jewelry is sold in the gift shop year-round; as the featured artist for August and September, selected pieces of her work will be on display.

First Friday Concerts: Quadrophonic – Space as Metaphor

Beginning Friday, August 1, Todd Barton and Bruce Bayard, performing as the duet Control Voltage Therapy, present a series of concerts every First Friday Schneider Museum of Art. Featuring two Buchla Easel electronic music instruments, and a quadraphonic sound system, Barton and Bayard explore “Space as Metaphor.” The concerts are every First Friday, August through December beginning at 11am. Some months will have special guests to be announced. The performances are free and open to the public.

Lifespan Social Clubs @ Emeritus Mountain View Assisted Living

Arc of Jackson Cty, LIfespan Respite has 2 Social CLubs for seniors experiencing memory loss, dementia, Alzheimer’s or any disability. We provide a low cost afternoon for caregivers of seniors where they can socialize, snack, play games, exercise, sing and feel a part of our community.

We currently have 2 Clubs, one in Ashland at Mt. View Assisted Living on Wednesdays from 12-4 and one in Medford at Wynwood of the Rogue Valley on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-4. These clubs are $6.50 per hour but financial assistance may be available.

Pioneer Families” by Anne Billeter – An Oregon Trail diary, an elopement, a newspaper family, a sheriff, and “the best musician in southern Oregon.” Learn about the families woven into the fabric of the Sutton-Turner Double Wedding Ring quilt. Learn how to do-it-yourself at “Urban Homesteading Basics,” a free talk by Kevin Prier on Tuesday, September 23, 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Eugene Public Library. Prier will share information about food preservation, soap and cheese making, and maximizing garden output.
 
Kevin Prier has more than 10 years’ experience on his own “urban homestead,” raising chickens and ducks for eggs and meat, growing fruit and produce, and making soap and bread. A research biologist and entomologist, he is a certified project management professional and partner at Holistic Tutoring Academy.

Adults are invited to “Make a Photo Album” with book artist Amanda Puetz at Eugene Public Library’s branches. The free hands-on workshop will be held at the Sheldon Branch on Tuesday, September 23, 6:00 p.m. and at the Bethel Branch on Tuesday, September 30, 6:00 p.m.
Participants will learn how to construct two types of photo albums. Whether for personal use or for gifts, these albums are a great project for beginners or experienced crafters. All materials will be provided, plus a selection of books about bookmaking will be available to borrow.
