Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick? Free Movie Screening

A new Regional Health Equity Coalition, SO Health-E, is hosting a free screening of the documentary Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick? to look at the impacts of social and economic inequities in America. We will examine why where you live can affect how long you live? Following the screening attendees will share and discuss health care in Southern Oregon and what needs to change.

 

The movie is split into 4 sessions (June 26, July 17, July 31, and August 14 – in English) and (June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8 – in Spanish).

July is filled with lots of fresh produce either from your garden or one close by.  In this class, learn to use your fresh produce to cook healthy and creative budget- friendly meals.

FREE COOKING CLASS!  Class includes recipes as well as samples of each item prepared.  Classes are FREE, however, we ask you bring a donation of non-perishable food for the community food bank.  Please enter our Teaching Kitchen from the door facing the Public Parking Lot on the corner of 5th and H Street.  Space is limited, reservations are required.  Please call and reserve your seat at 541-471-4208.

Lifespan Social Clubs @ Emeritus Mountain View Assisted Living

Arc of Jackson Cty, LIfespan Respite has 2 Social CLubs for seniors experiencing memory loss, dementia, Alzheimer’s or any disability. We provide a low cost afternoon for caregivers of seniors where they can socialize, snack, play games, exercise, sing and feel a part of our community.

We currently have 2 Clubs, one in Ashland at Mt. View Assisted Living on Wednesdays from 12-4 and one in Medford at Wynwood of the Rogue Valley on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-4. These clubs are $6.50 per hour but financial assistance may be available.

Chasing Ice: The Movie @ Medford Public Library

Directed by Jeff Orlowski, “Chasing Ice” is the stunning 2012 film account of James Balog’s Extreme Ice Survey documenting the melting of Arctic glaciers. Balog dramatically captures images of ice blocks larger than Manhattan breaking away as Arctic glaciers recede.

Proceeds and donations will be given to FFC to assist families with further training, education , and support opportunities. So, come to Wild River,  2684 N. There will be an informational booth explaining services that Families for Community provides and how you can get involved. Don’t miss it!
