Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick? Free Movie Screening

A new Regional Health Equity Coalition, SO Health-E, is hosting a free screening of the documentary Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick? to look at the impacts of social and economic inequities in America. We will examine why where you live can affect how long you live? Following the screening attendees will share and discuss health care in Southern Oregon and what needs to change.

 

The movie is split into 4 sessions (June 26, July 17, July 31, and August 14 – in English) and (June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8 – in Spanish).

Crater Rock Museum Featured Artist – August/September

Annie Thomas, Crater Rock Museum’s featured artist for August and September, is “…obsessed with beads and crystals of all kinds.” Her works are beautiful and innovative. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings – all are works of art! She enjoys recycling old vintage jewelry, and said her favorite new designs are those that resemble Victorian era pieces. Her unique designs, creativity, and love of beading shows in her lovely creations! Annie’s jewelry is sold in the gift shop year-round; as the featured artist for August and September, selected pieces of her work will be on display.

First Friday Concerts: Quadrophonic – Space as Metaphor

Beginning Friday, August 1, Todd Barton and Bruce Bayard, performing as the duet Control Voltage Therapy, present a series of concerts every First Friday Schneider Museum of Art. Featuring two Buchla Easel electronic music instruments, and a quadraphonic sound system, Barton and Bayard explore “Space as Metaphor.” The concerts are every First Friday, August through December beginning at 11am. Some months will have special guests to be announced. The performances are free and open to the public.

Shrek the Musical

Teen Musical Theater presents “Shrek the Musical” at 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday, August 1-2, 7:30 pm Thursday and Friday, August 7-8, and 2 pm Saturday, August 9, at the Craterian Theater at the Collier Center, 23 S Central, Medford. Take a rip-roaring music-filled adventure with a reluctant but lovable ogre, a talkative donkey, a headstrong princess (with a secret) and an evil lord in the Land of Far Far Way! Teen Musical Theater of Oregon is the youth theater education program of Craterian Performances and draws students from all over the Rogue Valley. Event Description:A luncheon meeting will be held in Grants Pass the first Saturday of each month. (Sept through May) 12 noon at the Black Forest Restaurant. This months meeting will be on Saturday April 5th.

For the program we are pleased to announce a return engagement of the musical father and daughter duo of Aaron and Jillian Johnson. They will provide some “Bluegrass” music and songs with Jillian playing the fiddle accompanied by her father Aaron on the guitar.

It’s time for summer camp! Join in Rogue Valley Farm to School Summer Camps at Historic Hanley Farm. Enroll now for July and August sessions – immerse your children in life on the farm! Camp is 9am-1pm daily, and each session is age-specific: July 7-11, ages 7 to 9; July 21-25, ages 10 to 12; and August 4-8, ages 8 to 10. Cost is $185 per camp, and includes lunch. A $75 security deposit is required to secure a spot, the balance is due the first day of camp. Cancellations made 3-weeks prior to camp start date will be refunded.
