Brava! Opera Theater and James M. Collier Young Artist Program Chamber Opera
Brava! Opera Theater and James M. Collier Young Artist Program will present for the first time in southern Oregon two charming, short chamber operas, The Impresario by Mozart and The Breasts of Tirésias by Poulenc on Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Camelot Theatre. Written by two of the world’s great composers, the comical combination of The Impresario and The Breasts of Tirésias will lift the spirits and warm the heart. In Mozart’s The Impresario, a beleaguered Impresario is trapped between the immense egos and testy temperaments of two divas who demand to know who is to be prima donna in his new opera. The Breasts of Tirésias by Poulenc, called the first surrealistic opera, encourages us to make babies instead of war, whimsically manages to confuse the genders, and have 40,049 babies born in a day to a very perplexed husband.
The fully staged operas will be performed in English, feature a richly talented national cast of professional opera singers and two pianists. The operas are directed by Willene Gunn with Conductor Laurie Anne Hunter. Tickets are Adults $30, Students $15 and available at Camelot Theatre at 541-535-5250 or online at www.camelottheatre.org.
Baritones José Rubio and Ryan Thorn, and sopranos Lindsay Ohse and Caitlin Cisler have performed internationally with LA Opera, Portland Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Madison Opera, Sarasota Opera, Dayton Opera, Cincinnati Opera and others. Eight local singers will join the cast in smaller roles and as ensemble members.
Brava! Opera Theater and James M. Collier Young Artist Program is an opera company created in 2010 by Artistic Director Willene Gunn, General Director Lorrie Hall and James M. Collier. Professional singer, actress, stage director and educator, Ms. Gunn served as Director of the Opera Program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music from 1975 to 2005 and Artistic Director of Rogue Opera from 2006-2009. Brava! Opera also hosts a National James M. Collier Vocal Competition in October with a Winner’s Concert each spring and a chamber opera, this year two charming short operas The Impresario by Mozart and The Breasts of Tirésias by Poulenc on March 6, 7, and 8, 2015 at Camelot Theater.
