GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A mother told police her teenage children were prepared for an emergency when a man attempted to break into their home.
On Saturday morning, police responded to a 911 call, where a 14-year-old girl said she saw a white adult male attempting to break into her home through the kitchen window. Grants Pass police said the 14-year-old girl, along with her 12-year-old brother, were able to quickly hide in the bedroom closet until police arrived.
Police saw the suspect attempting to flee the scene and was detained for questioning. Police say no one was injured during the attempted break-in. A screen to the window and window frame, however, was damaged by the suspect as a result of his attempt to enter the residence.
The teens’ mother arrived on scene shortly after the suspect was taken into custody and was told about the attempted break-in. The mother stated they had practiced scenarios like this in the past and were prepared. The officers praised the mom along with her daughter and son for their quick actions and level head during the 911 call.
The suspect, Brandon William Weeks, was questioned and eventually lodged at the Josephine County Jail.
