ROSEBURG, Ore. — A man is finished with his prison sentence after he and his wife abducted their children from state social workers over a decade ago.
Brian Christine and his wife, Ruth, took their three daughters at gunpoint near Myrtle Creek in August 2001, when social workers stopped at a rest area while transporting the children back to the Coos Bay area. The abduction gained national attention.
The state had taken the children in 2000 after they were found living with their parents in a converted bus in Grants Pass. The Associated Press reports that the state determined the children were malnourished and dehydrated at the time.
Ruth Christine Finished her 7-year prison sentence in 2009. After her release, the 35-year-old British citizen was then taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and deported back to England.
