Jackson County sheriff’s deputies cited 61-year-old Rebecca Santana of Central Point Thursday.

She’s accused of embezzling more than $20,000 from the EPID while working as the group’s bookkeeper. Irrigation district leaders began to suspect something was going on after noticing errors in their account documents.

“EPID started looking into things themselves, going through their own records and whatnot. They notified us and we were able to do some investigating and get to the bottom of this,” said Andrea Carlson, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

Santana was cited and released, and the case has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office.
