YREKA, Calif. — A Northeast Oregon railroad has pulled the plug on a plan to move the “Blue Goose” Steam train from Yreka to Wallowa and Union counties.
Nearly a year ago the Wallowa Union Railroad Authority arranged with Court Hammond, owner of the Yreka Western, to bring this 1915 steam locomotive to Oregon.
The plan was to run tourist trains on the Wallowa Union Railroad Line, but Hammond’s financial problems stalled the project, and the Oregon group cancelled the season.
Now the WURA has cancelled it’s contract with Hammond and his railroad altogther. Hammond has not returned calls to say what is in the future for the Yreka Western or this historic steam engine.
