NEAR CENTRAL POINT, Ore. – A series of small fires along Interstate 5 on Blackwell Hill kept State Forestry and Fire District 3 crews busy Monday morning.
The fires broke out along the southbound lanes near milepost 37, and burned dry grass and star thistle. Two or three of the fires burned together between the highway and a nearby frontage road.
A crew chief with Oregon State Forestry says it appears to have been from sparks from a passing vehicle, possibly a faulty catalytic converter. An investigation into the exact cause is underway.
