MEDFORD, Ore. – A combination of Black Friday shopping and a big-time football game left some local sports bars wondering what the outcome would be for their bottom line.
The annual Civil War football game between the Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers is typically one of the most popular and profitable days for local sports bars and restaurants. But some managers said they worried potential customers could be distracted by their shopping on Friday.
Most sports bars were taking a wait-and-see approach Friday afternoon before the game, not knowing if they would need to call in extra staff. Some managers hoped the Black Friday shopping would actually bring in more customers wanting to get off their feet. But others worried that a morning full of shopping could make potential customers just want to go home.
One restaurant not open to the public yet for the Civil War is the new Buffalo Wild Wings, located by Sportsman’s Warehouse on Delta Waters Road. The restaurant is currently training its staff, and will be officially open on Sunday.
