MEDFORD, Ore. – On Tuesday North Medford will host Westview in the 6A softball semifinals. It’s a chance for the Black Tornado to take one step towards its third straight state championship. This year, however, North Medford is without two-time Gatorade Player of the Year, Maryssa Becker. Becker is continuing her softball career at the University of Louisville, and she did not skip a beat. Becker became the first Louisville freshman since 2000 to earn all-region honors after being named to the All-Central 2nd Team. She was also one of 25 finalists for the NFCA Freshman of the Year after leading the Cardinals’ pitching staff in ERA, strikeouts and innings. On Monday, Becker sat down with NewsWatch 12’s Brandon Kamerman to discuss her transition from high school to Division I, coming back to watch her former teammates and who she thinks will win the Women’s College World Series.
