COVALLIS – Ore. – The Oregon St. defense was stifling as the Beavers shut down Heisman Trophy candidate Montee Ball and upset the #13 Wisconsin Badgers 10-7. OSU held Ball to 61 yards rushing on 15 carries, with nearly half of that yardage coming late in the fourth quarter. Wisconsin didn’t reach 100 yards of total offense until the fourth quarter of this contest.
The Beavers moved the ball well, behind 276 yards passing from Sean Mannion, but struggled to find the end zone. Oregon St. led just 3-0 at the half, but got a little more breathing room when Mannion connected with Brandin Cooks on a 20 yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter. Wisconsin had its only score with less than two minutes to go in the fourth, but the Beavers were able to hold on and score the upset of a Top 25 team.
Oregon St. has a bye this coming week. The Beavers hit the field on September 22nd for their Pac-12 opener against UCLA.
