GRANTS PASS, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Forestry or ODF reports firefighters working on the 115-acre Beacon Hill Fire east of Grants Pass made good progress Saturday on strengthening firelines and mopping up hot spots. Sunday, a county Community Justice crew and a handful of engines continue the laborious chore of extinguishing isolated hot spots, according to ODF.

Fire officials say ODF is the only remaining agency on scene with 20 members of ground crew and two engines. Residents will see occasional puffs of smoke rise from the burned area Sunday and fire vehicle traffic will continue in the Jones Creek Road. and Beacon Drive areas.

Fire officials want to remind you that fire season in southwest Oregon starts Monday, which means open burning season will end. Fire season typically lasts until mid-October, according to ODF.
