ASHLAND, Ore.– A high school orchestra will be performing at the Elizabethan Theater in Ashland, Monday night. The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra is coming all the way from the San Fransisco Bay area; It is a tradition that has been going on for neatly 40 years.
The ensemble gave a sneak peak of their season finale on the Ashland Plaza, Monday afternoon. Each of the players are high school students, ranging from ages 14 to 17.
The tour was started by the orchestra’s founder nearly 35 years ago, insisting on allowing his students a unique experience. Now the current director, Ben Simon, said it is something worth carrying on.
“It’s a great experience for the kids to be able to tour for a bit and be like a real orchestra for a couple of days. it’s a perfect length for a tour. 4-5 days.”
The group is anticipating at least 500 people to attend Monday nights concert. The show will begin at 8pm. Tickets are $14, $12 for OSF members, and $6 for students.
