Robber Gets Away with Cash

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Detectives are now looking into the third bank robbery within city limits in a two month period. On Monday, close to 5 p.m., police were called to Bank of the Cascades on Union Avenue.

Tellers told police, a man approached the counter and told them to to move away. He grabbed cash from the drawers and took off on foot. A Josephine County Deputy was nearby and saw him running, the deputy chased after the robber, but lost him around Sonic, the fast-food restaurant.

“When he gave chase, the subject disappeared all of a sudden. Even when bystanders were reporting where he went. We believe he had a car parked nearby and he got into the vehicle, with either the help of someone or by himself and drove off,” explained Sgt. Dan Evans.

Detectives are hoping anyone eating at sonic or anyone near the bank and saw the man running will contact police. The robber is wearing a distinct red, white and black jacket; he’s also in his mid to late 50’s and has a thin build. This is the third robbery in the Grants Pass area in two months. Chase Bank at Fred Meyer and Umpqua Bank were the other two.

Police are looking to see if the robberies are connected. In all, three incidents the man did not show a weapon but demanded cash. If you have any information, or if this man looks familiar, contact Grants Pass Police at 541-450-6260.
