JAPAN – Ashland rode the legs and arm of Danial White to a 32-30 victory over Japan in the 25th anniversary of the Pacific Rim Bowl. The Grizzlies scored their first touchdown on a wide receiver pass to Sebastian Warren, and they scored their last touchdown on another trick play: a reverse to Shashi Penn. Parker Layton, son of Chip Layton (Pacific Rim Bowl alumni from 1990), also scored a touchdown.
Japan used their own trickery, cutting the Grizzlies lead to two with a flea-flicker with 20 seconds left. Japan then attempted an onside kick (the Japanese already converted one successful onside kick in the game), but the Grizzlies recovered and ran out the clock.
The win breaks the series tie and gives Ashland a 7-6 lead since 1988. The two teams are expected to meet in Ashland in 2015.
