ASHLAND, Ore. – Ashland Fire officials are offering citizens grants of up to $500 for removing flammable brush and plants near homes.
It is part of the effort to make sure homes have enough defensible space to reduce the risk of damage in a wildfire. Fire officials said plants like juniper and cypress are extremely flammable and can increase the risk to homes during a fire.
Citizens wanting to receive the grants must first schedule a Wildfire Safety home assessment, during which they will receive recommendations on how to better protect their home. Homeowners would receive the grants once all debris is removed from the site, and if the work is completed by December.
To schedule a home assessment, contact Ali True, Ashland Firewise Communities Coordinator, at 541-552-2231.
