ASHLAND, Ore. — More than 50 parking spots downtown are fenced off and undergoing development.
The lot on the corner of Lithia and First Street is private property owned by Mahar Homes. According to the city of Ashland Associate Planner, Derek Severson, the city has been leasing the property for parking for the past five years, but now that the economy is getting better, Mahar Homes is developing the space.
Severson said the developer plans to build a mix of residential and commercial buildings in the space.
According to Severson, the city of Ashland is looking into doing a parking study, which will be completed sometime next year.
