ASHLAND, Ore. – In Ashland, fire crews gathered to honor the fallen heroes with a long standing tradition. Bells rang as fire fighters and emergency personnel bowed their heads a moment of silence was taken to reflect on the sacrifice made by those in uniform.
Friends, family and community members joined the local fire crews in support. Officials say the ceremony helps highlight the bravery of those men and women and of those left behind.
“We are in positions that are at risk, we call it calculated risk. We anticipate going home to our families the next day but you never know what’s on the other end of that call,” said Margueritte Hickman, with Ashland Fire Rescue.
After the ceremony, the station lobby opened its doors so that guests could view the world trade center monument that is on display.
