ASHLAND, Ore. — It’s meant to be a “hand up” rather than a “hand out”, but someone took off with the donations inside an Ashland drop box for the homeless population.
The man was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night after a witness flagged down a nearby police officer. The man allegedly tried to take the money by dropping a wire hook into the box located near the Black Swan Theater and Chamber of Commerce.
The boxes were originally put up in mid-June by a partnership of the Chamber of Commerce and St. Vincent De Paul. All money collected goes to help the homeless population.
