YREKA, Calif. — Wednesday night, a passerby on Westside Road noticed a dead body out in a field and contacted Yreka Police. Police officials say this is the second body found this month and third body found since November.
The ground is dry this time of year along Yreka Creek on the south end of town and just a few hundred feet away, a third dead body was found Wednesday night. Police say the body was significantly decomposed and had possibly been there a few days.
Yreka Police Chief Brian Bowles is not calling it a homicide at this point but he isn’t ruling out foul play. Another body was found along Yreka Creek on the north end of town on July 9th, in the same area another body was discovered in November. Police say at this point there is nothing linking the deaths.
“As we speak there are no connections to the cases, although, we are not ruling any connections out. We are currently working with the department of justice and the FBI with these cases,” explained Yreka Police Chief Brian Bowles.
Chief Bowles says they are working around the clock on these cases and doing interviews for the active investigations. All three bodies have been found along Yreka Creek and the Yreka Police Department urges the public to steer clear of that area.
