Anchor Mom: Work & Home Balance

Work and home balance?  That’s possible?  According to some experts, it is at least partially possible.

The ABC affiliate, KATU, in Portland just did this story about how working moms can have it all.

The article offers these tips:

-Be present.  If you’re at work – be at work.  If you’re at home – be at home.

-Assign time limits and stick to them.  Do what you can at work or home and then move on.

-Combine your work and home calendars.  That way you can see all of your commitments and make choices.

For me, finding the balance has been about trial and error.  When my son was first born – there was no finding any balance.  At this point, we have a routine that allows me to do well at work and do well with my son.  Some days end, where I realize I should have paid more attention to my son and less attention to the work e-mails on my smartphone.  The next day, I just try a little harder to step away from my phone.

Have you found balance in juggling work and home?  If you’re a stay-at-home parent, have you found balance between your kids and all of the other responsibilities staying at home comes with?  Share your tips to help in the constant balancing act!

Well said and I agree, limiting use of electronic devices certainly helps at home. For me I always struggle with a third component and that is finding balance between working, being a mom and being a wife. I feel I can do really good at 2 out of the 3 at any given time, but it’s a huge challenge to do all 3 well all the time. It definitely helps to have a strong support system in place that can help out or at least understand the demands associated with working outside the home.

      Krista –
I think you are right about having to juggle those three elements. That makes things even harder. A strong support system is key!

My wife and I are educated and both work from home and take care of our toddler. Our main goal is to help others work from home if they want to. We love it. After having been in the workforce for a few decades, we decided to develop a hands-free system for almost no cost and I train and coach people by phone. We believe if parents want to stay home and work that they should be able to do that, no matter what their background. If you love what you do, then you are in the right place. We strive to give others a chance to stay home if that is their dream. http://workonlineacademy.com/go/TrafficWf/
