Amber Alert: Boy Found Safe

THE DALLES, Ore. — After an Amber Alert was issued early this morning in The Dalles, the child in question was found safe and the suspect is now in police custody.

Police had reported that Skylar Meldin Coulcer-Jarding, age 5, was taken from his home around 5:40 AM. The suspect was last seen driving a stolen bluish-green 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier displaying Oregon license 229 BUK.

At 8:30 AM, the Amber Alert was cancelled and police reported that the suspect, Brian DePriest, age 36, was in custody. We are still waiting on more details as the story develops.

[ORIGINAL STORY]
A five-year-old boy from The Dalles was kidnapped this morning, activating an Amber Alert. Oregon State Police says Skylar Coulcer-Jarding was taken from his home around 5:40 this morning. Police believe 36-year-old Brian DePriest went into the child’s home and assaulted someone with a hammer before taking the boy. Police say DePriest knows Skylar’s mother but have not released information about that relationship.

DePriest is believed to be driving a stolen bluish-green 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier displaying Oregon license 229 BUK.  The vehicle has a dolphin sticker on the rear window. Skylar is 3’6”, 45-50 lbs, with sandy-brown hair.  He wears glasses, is cross-eyed, and has a speech impediment. DePreist was last seen wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

There are no details yet about where DePriest may be headed.

    Having gone through this ordeal with my oldest son, it is nice to know that others can come to the aid who cannot defend themselves.
