Performed together in English, the comical one-act operas The Old Maid and the Thief and The Telephone, promise to delight opera novices and aficionados alike. The Old Maid and the Thief is a tale of gossip, small town stereotypes, and the lengths to which people will go for love. In The Telephone, two lovers face a different challenge caused by a young woman’s obsession with her phone. The operas are filled with Menotti’s incredibly witty words and ingenious music and feature a richly talented national cast of professional opera singers and instrumentalists.
