Affordable Housing Bill Passes

HOUSINGSALEM, Ore. — A new bill is one step closer to making housing a little more affordable for struggling families.

The Oregon Senate voted in favor of the low-income housing bill, 28 to 2. This will allow units that offer low-income housing opportunities to be exempt from taxes.

This in return makes the cost of those units cheaper for those in need. This comes after question over the current law, which did not clearly define which properties were taxable.

The bill now heads to Governor Kitzhaber’s desk for approval.
