Accused Bombing Co-Conspirators Charged

Boston Marathon Explosion(CNN) — A federal grand jury charged two friends of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on Thursday.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston says they’re now charged with obstructing justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, both 19 years old and of Kazakhstan, had been charged in May, but only with the conspiracy count.¬†They’re accused of helping Tsarnaev after the April 15th bombing by taking items from his dorm room to keep them from investigators.

If convicted, they could get up to 20 years in prison on the obstruction count and up to five years on the conspiracy count. They also could be fined $250,000.
