A Foster Parent Union in the Works

SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon Senate is considering legislation that would create a foster parent union.

Supporters say foster parents have no voice at the capital and forming a union could allow them to fight more effectively for resources and support.

Foster parents are paid by the state. The measure would allow them as public employees to create the union and bargain collectively, but they would also not be allowed to strike. Critics argue that there are better options than unionizing.
