NEAR EUREKA, CALIF. — The United States Geological Survey says a 6.9 magnitude earthquake rumbled the ground last night shortly before 10:30pm. The epicenter was located 50 miles west of Eureka, California.
The tremor was felt across Southern Oregon at 10:18pm Sunday night when the earthquake struck. Emergency Management in Eureka says no damage has been reported, however officials do say it’s unusual that an earthquake of this magnitude has brought no injuries or damage to the surrounding area.
Lt. Steve Knight with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department reported his house shaking just before calling in the incident. Others in Northern California had also reported feeling the tremor. The earthquake was felt across Southern Oregon reportedly lasting about 30 seconds.
The depth of the quake was 7 miles. No tsunami threat was warranted.
