43,000 Job Openings Reported this Summer

jobsSALEM, Ore. — The number of open summer jobs in Oregon may be a positive sign for the economy.

The Oregon Employment Department just released information from the summer. It says private employers had nearly 43,000 job vacancies over the summer.

In July, there were more than 157,000 unemployed Oregonians. That translates to about 4 unemployed people for each private-sector vacancy.

However, that number of vacancies was the highest since before the recession began.

So how many people were laid off during this same time period? When you have hospitals dumping employees by the thousands across the country since the beginning of this year, you have to wonder how those numbers equal out in general – job opportunities vs jobs lost. Also…how many of those jobs were less than part-time?
