Lightning-Caused Wildfires Burn Throughout Southern Oregon

SUMMER THUNDERSTORMS BRING MULTIPLE WILDFIRES

Fires continue to burn throughout Southern Oregon after passing thunderstorms pummeled the area with over 1,000 lightning strikes, sparking dozens of confirmed wildfires over the weekend of July 15. Fire and forestry crews are still actively battling those fires—several of which only continue to grow.

Forestry officials have grouped those fires based on location and which agencies have command. Fires spread around Josephine and Jackson counties form the Garner Complex, now nearing containment. The runaway Taylor Creek Fire—now independent from the Garner Complex—threatens homes west of Merlin and Grants Pass. Meanwhile, the Klondike Fire west of Selma, the Natchez Fire south of Takilma, the South Umpqua Complex along the Douglas County border and the Sugar Pine Fire west of Crater Lake National Park continue to burn in deeply forested lands.

Stay with NewsWatch 12 for the latest updates on firefighting efforts and what effects these fires could have where you are—as well as information on air quality, weather patterns and temperatures from our StormWatch 12 meteorologists.
